Curiosity Shop are an alt-folk five-piece from Edinburgh whose music feels steeped in landscape rather than city streets. Drawing on folk, jazz and indie influences, they fold elements of Scotland’s enduring musical traditions into songs that feel warm, ornate and quietly transportive. There’s a timelessness to what they do, nodding to classic harmony-led songwriting while still sounding firmly of the present.

Storytelling sits at the heart of their work. Lyrics are rich with imagery and often return to the natural world — animals, seasons, and the uneasy relationship between nature and modern life. Their sound has been described as “like listening to honey”, and it fits: melodies flow easily, harmonies glow, and songs linger long after they’ve finished, sticking with you in unexpected ways.

The band centres on longtime collaborators Ru Wallace and Sonny Scott, who grew up together in Kintyre, writing songs side by side through their teenage years. After moving to Edinburgh to study music, they expanded the project with drummer Duncan Biggar, bassist Louis Taige and multi-instrumentalist Yann McAuley, whose accordion, flute, keys and harmonium add depth and colour to the arrangements.

Since forming in early 2024, Curiosity Shop have quickly built a reputation for captivating live performances, from packed hometown shows to standout festival appearances.
