Y emerged from London’s restless underground, forming in 2023 as a kind of spontaneous project between friends looking for something wild. What started in isolation quickly turned into a full-on collective: their sound folds post-punk, sax-led grooves, angular guitar riffs, synth bursts and dancefloor energy into something delightfully unpredictable.
Sophie Coppin’s vocals and keys give Y a weird, slightly off-kilter melody, while Adam Brennan’s guitar and jagged harmonies draw from jazz fusion vibes and jagged, restless energy. The rhythm section—bass, drums, percussion—and even a searing saxophone from Harry McHale build layers of noise, groove, and chaos. It’s as if everyone’s musical baggage got thrown into a blender and turned up loud, but somehow the result feels coherent, invigorating, and full of attitude.
Y would be what you get when you cross a sweaty post-punk club, a spontaneous jam session, and a midnight dance-down. One moment you might be bouncing off the walls, the next you might be swaying, eyes closed, lost in their strange energy. We think they could be one of the most thrilling curveballs of 2026. Don’t miss it.
