The Adam Buxton Band is exactly the sort of glorious nonsense you’d hope for from Adam Buxton stepping into a musical world — songs full of wit, charm and gentle absurdity, delivered with the kind of melodic polish you get when you rope in members of Metronomy to help make the whole thing gleam. It’s part comedy set, part gig, part affectionate parody of the music Adam grew up loving, complete with irresistible choruses and lyrics that happily wander off in unexpected directions.

There’s a wonderful tension at play: Buxton’s beautifully daft imagination set against proper musicianship, sharp arrangements and grooves that have no business being as catchy as they are.
