Rich(ard) Dawson

Richard Dawson, born in Newcastle upon Tyne, is a progressive folk singer-songwriter renowned for his distinctive blend of folk traditions and experimental sounds. His music often intertwines ancient myths with contemporary themes, creating a unique narrative style.

Dawson's music is characterized by its deconstruction of traditional folk elements, drawing influences from diverse sources such as Qawwali music, Kenyan folk guitarist Henry Makobi, and folk musician Mike Waterson. His storytelling often delves into dark and complex themes, reflecting both historical events and personal experiences.

His upcoming album, End of the Middle, is set to be released on February 14, 2025, under the Domino imprint Weird World. The album includes tracks such as "Bolt," "Gondola," "Bullies," and "Polytunnel," the latter of which has been described by Dawson as open to interpretation, allowing listeners to derive personal meanings.

His 2017 album Peasant received much acclaim, and was chosen by The Quietus as their album of the year. Not to be missed we say.
