If you are a 6 music listener you will probably know Honeyglaze as their track 'Pretty Girls' has been on heavy rotation of late, but I think that their recent successes are not their most noteworthy attribute, despite it being well deserved.
I am wondering the degree to which their 'trio-ness' has contributed to their aesthetic.
Well regarded three-piece bands have certain things in common, I put to you. All members must contribute more, and in the case of Honeyglaze, bass and drums (Tim Curtis and Yuri Shibuichi) are most definitely not just there in support of singer and guitarist Anouska Sokolow.
This I think is unusual, as clearly much of the fuel for the band is in the lyrical content, affairs of the heart - more than a couple of rocky roads, one gets the impression. It feels like shared trauma in a way, even if it isn't particularly.
Honeyglaze is the sort of band that, given enough time on your hands, you could get very tied up in. It seems to me any success that comes their way is purely a secondary benefit of the whole expressive process. A grown up band, despite tender years.
They will certainly be worth your time over the weekend.
As an aside I was pleased to see a SOMA Pipe featured on their track Ghosts.
