King Hannah
One's first introduction to King Hannah might well be the track that I have featured here 'New York, Let's Do Nothing'. You might be seduced by its lazy stoner vibe that so effortlessly describes bumming around the Big Apple. And the spoken word aspects of this might draw you to make Blue Aeroplanes, Dry Cleaning or LYT comparisons.
But that track seems to me to be the outlier, great as it is, or at least not the whole story.
The track 'Big Swimmer' is Laura Marling quality, in quite a different style. 'The Mattress' has echoes of Portishead in the drums. 'State Trooper' veering off the road to PJ Harvey.
I would normally feel uncomfortable describing an artist in terms of other artists but in the case of King Hannah it points to them being super comfortable with themselves and their craft. Nothing is forced.
A no-brainer booking. Confident and super cool.
