King Creosote
We have history with King Creosote. We booked him 15 years ago when we ran our In The Dock nights at the Old Thirsk Courthouse. The KC era that threw up the tune 678
Back then he was a famed part of The Fence Collective, with a pre-steaming DIY approach to music creation and distribution - burning his own CDs and creating bespoke album artwork for each disc.
Another stand out point in his long career is his album collaboration with electronic pioneer and producer Jon Hopkins. Bats In The Attic remains a DSF office favourite. 'Going silver in my sideburns I'm starting to unravel'.
We love the Withered Hands description of a trip to LA with Kenny, immortalised in their song King Of Hollywood.
Kenny has moved on like the rest of us. 2023 saw a new album 'I DES' with its rather downbeat album sleeve. Thankfully the record sonically remains much more euphoric. His voice soars as ever, a consistent thread throughout all of his varying output for the last 20 years.
The 30+ minute track Drone in B# mirrors Jon Hopkins latest output, before entering into a vague Ozric Tenticles vibe and back again. Smashing.
