Raised in the Republic of Congo, it was only when Winnie Poaty arrived in the Lakes in 2006 that she learned how to swim. Now an inspiring advocate of the mental health benefits cold water swimming brings – as well as running her own clothing and jewellery shop in Kendal, Winnie can be found in Lake Windermere most days apart from the Deer Shed weekend of course when she will be giving a short talk on her wild swim experience before leading a group to the River Swale.
