For over 10 years, instrumental masterminds Public Service Broadcasting have been capturing pivotal moments in time and transforming them into audio-visual spectacles via the medium of modular synthesizers, flugelhorn and, of course, the all important vibraslap...

But it's a rare thing to actually hear from the band themselves. This will be PSB's third time at Deer Shed but their first in conversation with us. John from the band will be sitting down with the Guardian's Northern music writer Dave Simpson to talk all things PSB.

Dave Simpson

Dave Simpson writes on music, popular culture and regional issues for the Guardian, from a north of England base, and regularly appears on local and national radio programmes. He has previously written for the music press, having contributed to such titles as Melody Maker, Uncut and i_D.

He is the author of The Fallen: Life In and Outside of Britain’s Most Insane Group (Canongate), which was included in the best music book of the year round-ups and voted in the Top 10 best music books ever by Neon Filler website. His second book, The Last Champions: Leeds United and the Year Football Changed Forever was published by Bantam Press in 2012.

But after spotting a little back an forth on twitter between Holly Ross and James Smith AKA Yard Act talking about all things books,it peaked our interest. Fast forward to Deer Shed 13 and we wanted to invite the duo back not only to DJ our Sunday late night but to bring their Egg Book Club Live! to Deer Shed.

Holly will be interviewing a special guest to find out about their latest publication, but also delve into their library collection to find out what their reading now, and the books that have stayed with them and changed their life over the years. We can't wait!

The globetrotting underground production legend is responsible for the inimitable sound of The Strokes' debut album 'Is This It'; a record that changed many a life here at Deer Shed HQ.

Gordon joins The Guardian’s own Dave Simpson for a conversation covering everything from growing up in the Seattle music scene and making a name for himself as a rock n roll producer to how exactly Gordon ended up settling down just over the way in Hebden Bridge!

Multi-award winning poet and literary laureate himself Joseph Coelho is paying us a visit to read some poems from family favourites like ‘Zombierella’, ‘The Hairdo That Got Away’ and his brand new book ‘Courage Out Loud.’

A collection of mantras and rhymes to inspire our young people be true to themselves or simply to make them burst out laughing, Joseph is coming to Topcliffe to teach the power of poetry, spark a love of verse and have a load of fun too!

John Hegley might just be our favourite person, like ever. The poet, comedian, musician and songwriter has been talking, writing, singing and dancing about everything from dogs and glasses to poignant potatoes and his beloved Luton Town for as long as we can remember.

2021 saw John perform at his 31st Edinburgh Fringe Festival and you’ll no doubt be pleased to know he’s only getting funnier! Whether John has us singing along to songs about bungalows or drawing pictures of dogs or even writing a poem of our own, we can’t think of anyone better to join us at Deer Shed to show us his dromedary and crab drawings.
